Blossom
2000-2022
Blossom was a little Dartmoor Hill Pony who we found tied up in a field at a poultry farm. She had been wearing her halter for so long that it had cut into her face. As we put her into the trailer to bring her home, I removed the halter so that she could travel loose. “You’ll never catch her without her halter on” said the owner. Which for many people was true!
Blossom took part in a lot of equine assisted learning sessions, helping to train facilitators. We had what we called ‘the Blossom test’. We knew that energy and intention were low if someone could approach Blossom and put a halter on her! She seemed to know what she needed to do to teach these, often experienced, horse people a little more about how to communicate in a different way with a horse.
I didn’t realise that Blossom was pregnant until I took her to a show with my grand daughter. One judge commented on her size (rather fat!) and then another one said “Could this mare be pregnant? She’s bagging up”. A week or so later I went out to hear the slurping sound of a suckling foal! It was still dark and I had to wait for several hours before I could see that my first foal was the most gorgeous skewbald filly. She had the whitest legs I’d ever seen. Daisy is still helping people to learn about horses and lives in the New Forest.
Penstacan Megan
1999-2022
Megan was bought in 1999 as a yearling. I spotted her across a crowded sale room, won the bidding for her but it hadn’t met her reserve. I liked the look of her so much that I approached her breeder and bought her after the sale. I said she was going to be my ‘Number 2’ horse, to which her breeder replied “It won’t be long before she’s your Number 1 horse” and she was right!
Megan proved to be the most wonderful horse. She taught me a huge amount about communication and trust between humans and horses especially after she allowed me to ride her even though she had had both her eyes removed. I wouldn’t do that to another horse but I am grateful for the experience with Megan and what that taught me.
We tried AI for one year and then Megan went off to visit with Derwen Railway Express in Wales. The following year she had a wonderful bay colt foal named Ffynnon. Unfortunately he broke a leg in a paddock accident and died in 2006.
GI Red Hot N Classy
Born 2013-
GI Red Hot N Classy was born in 2013 and we call her ‘Jazz’ at home.
She is out of Classic Mac Attack by Red Hot Sandstone. She was bred by Caroline Channing in Wales and joined the herd when she was eight months old.
She was started under saddle with the help of my long-time friend Steve Halfpenny. We went off to clinics with Steve and then to a clinic in Devon with the fabulous Joe Wolter.
rode out on hacks
I decided to focus my attention on breeding quarter horses and made enquiries about possible stallions. There were one or two that I asked about - Wilden Shogun being one of them. I visited Roslin Stud to meet Call Me at Night and Genuine Jay Rooster and loved the set up and the quality of the foals that I saw. In 2021, Jazz went off to visit with Rooster and in 2022 had a stunning palomino filly foal.
Motherhood has completely changed Jazz’s character and she has taken to it really well. She is calm and relaxed with the foal and allowed me to be near the foal from Day 1. She had been ‘a bit of a diva’, could lay her ears back, go to bite and toss her head vigorously if she thought something was not to her liking. However, after the foal came along it as as though she had had a complete character transplant!
Sunshine Jubilee
Jazz’s foal was born on 26/5/2022. She is by Genuine Jay Rooster, a wonderful bay stallion owned by Lynn Boon at Roslin Stud.
Sunshine is a bold, brave, confident filly who has been living in a mixed herd since she was a couple of weeks old.
She is not for sale.
Wilden Mahala
A stunning black filly bred by Adeline Jones at Wilden Quarter Horses and born on 4//4/22. She is out of Wilden Joy by Wilden Shogun and will bring a classic element to our future breeding programme.
